Dr Innes Ritchie, MA, MSc, PhD
|
RESEARCH: Architectures for large scale distributed systems, performance and security within web-based systems, performance evaluation of databases, hardware/software co-design. Dr Ritchie has been active in parallel and distributed systems research and teaching for the past fourteen years, and has over 60 refereed publications in these areas. She has successfully supervised PhD candidates in these areas. Recently her work has focused on software development issues involved in large-scale distributed systems. Current collaborative projects involve in research into: temporal issues within web systems, delivery of XML data within the financial industries, secure delivery of multimedia services for the cultural industries, technology to support active reading in English literature studies. TEACHING: Dr Ritchie's fourteen years teaching experience at Sheffield Hallam University covers undergraduate and postgraduate courses, for full time, part time and distance learning students. She has developed and delivered modules in the areas of software engineering, distributed systems and applications development. She has been have been heavily involved in the planning of new undergraduate computing programmes, and of the Career Masters degrees in association with Oracle, SAP and SAS, currently delivering modules on these. She has taught advanced short courses at various academic institutions in Europe and has acted as advisor on curriculum development. She has considerable experience as a supervisor of undergraduate and masters level projects. She contributes regularly to advanced specialist courses run for industry in the field of applications development and integration. Recent activities involve the establishment of a new MSc in Entertainment Software Development in association with Sony.
