Past, Present and Future |
Over the last *cough* years of re-enactment I've looked into and attempted (with various means of sucess) many projects.
I thought that I'd finally get around to putting up some piccies of what I've done - and while I know there will be better examples of just about everything I've ever done by someone else, I'm quite pleased with the majority of the stuff!
Photo's will follow, some of the bits around the camp, others of the things being modelled!
PAST WORKS
Lucet Cording
I've been luceting for well over 10 years now
(!) - and am relatively good at it - must have made miles of the stuff!
It gets used like the medieval equivalent of Gaffer (Duct) tape.

Womens Clothing
Thankfully very little evidence remains of my
first, rather abortive brown dress being worn by me. I made my current
set or white linen shift, red kirtle and blue gown some years ago and it
now has that 'lived in' look! Over winter projects is to make a red
woollen huke and mend my sokkes!

Netmaking - Purse Nets
This is what I started to make to learn the skills
of netmaking. I'm not an acomplished netter by any scale - but they
work! I've since been removing the metal rings and replacing them
with polished horn rings. They form part of the display around the
tent.

Netmaking - Long / Gate Net
This started out as a long net, but I realised
how expensive it would be, for what, after all, is a piece of background!
It's been stopped at gate net size, about the same as that shown in Gaston
Phebus's Book of the Hunt.
Netmaking - Hair Net
Needles were bought from Sweetness and Light
(see contacts) and with much swearing I have now managed to produce 2 and
am on with my third! Jeanette is modelling the latest finished one.

Inkle Weaving
When Nigel offered me an inkle loom I nearly
snatched his hand off! Floor standing loom makes metres of braid
at a time. After one abortive start I can now spell words on it -
as long as the word is 'Neville' - another one to take away next season
and let the public loose on! :)

Flag Painting
Painted the version of the Neville Flag. Took
about 72 hours, and I'm not happy with it - but Tim was so I guess that's
all that matters!

Finger Braiding
Started doing this on the coach on the way to
the Italy event 2002. I'm able to do this, but not to a great level
of competence. Will keep practicing!
Tablet Weaving
Started doing this on the coach on the way to
the Italy event 2002 when I got sore fingers from finger brainding.
I'm happier with this than finger braiding, and plan to get more cards
and do some more!!
Spinning
A craft I'm sort of coming back to - was really
into this in mid 80's - but lack of space / uni and the inevitable rented
accomodation put paid to this. Hoping to get my spinning wheel out
of storage and blitz through some fleece this winter...

Natural Dying
...once it's spun I'm going to dye it up with
natural dyes...

Tapestry Weaving
And then weave it into a tapestry. My most
ambitious project yet! Let's see how it goes!
