These pages are an unnoficial site for matters relating to the federation of the wars of the roses. They have been kept to a minumum in terms of graphics for faster re-loading. If you have comments on the pages or which to have information added, please get in touch.

If you want information for a project please don't ask me! I am NOT an expert in historical matters and will probably not be able to help you! This includes asking me to locate distant ancestors who may or may not have been part of someones army in the 15th Century - sorry!

We are an umbrella organisation for a number of historical re-enactment groups - spread from the West Country to Tyneside - who depict the military and campaign life of the period now known as the Wars of the Roses (1450 - 1500) While individual groups or households work locally (often at properties managed by English Heritage, the National Trust or local authorities) several times a year we aim to come together en masse to re-enact one of the major conflicts of the time. At our larger scale recent events such as Bosworth or Barnet up to 300 participants - men-at-arms (some in full plate) liveried bill fighters and archers - portray a section of the battle. Where space and terrain permit we are able to engage our authentically mounted and equipped cavalry. We are expanding our own gun section comprising not only wheeled or sledge field pieces but also 'polegonnes' and early hand held pieces. In addition to the wholly military aspect, our medieval camps bustle with the daily life of the soldiers' women and families. Many groups cook communally using replica ranges, pots and utensils and amuse themselves playing medieval board and other games. We also have a small contingent of traders - such as would have followed soldiers on campaign - many of whom offer interesting demonstrations of contemporary skills and crafts. Membership: This is by group rather than individual person. Each group may have slightly different criteria for membership or conditions for joining. For example, some accept associate as well as full members; some have a stringent policy against cross-dressing while others actively encourage it. If you are interested in joining us, why not contact several group representatives before deciding? While considering geography and proximity (which does mean it's convenient to train together - or even get to the same pub...) do consider common interest areas or emphasis as well. In any case, many groups do have a quite widely geographically spread membership. Commissioning an Event/Employing the Federation: If you would like to consider engaging the Wars of the Roses Federation as a whole to recreate either the military or domestic aspects of late 15th century campaign life please contact either the Chair or Secretary:
