Navigating the Information
Superhighway
This page is mainly for those taking the Engineering Common
Programme Option "Navigating the Information Super Highway",
however it may be of value to others wishing to discover the power
of the Internet and Mosaic in particular. Examples of hypertext,
hyperlinks, FTP , TELNET and Gopher are included.
Additionally the notes developed for the course are available.
The syllabus covers the major
areas needed to be able to use the Internet.
The assessment scheme has
been devised to ensure that you develop all the basic skills needed
to navigate the Superhighway.

result some diagrams and some of the formatting information has been
lost.

Things To Try
This page will allow you to try out a few basic ideas, and to
demonstrate some of the facilities that Mosaic and the WWW
provides.
To try out a hyperlink to another site try this one .
If you fancy some sound (if your machine supports it) then try to
get some from Elvis.
If you want to try out ftp, a good site with lots of archives is oak.oakland.edu which
allows anonymous ftp.
Telnet can be experimented with at NASA, login as
guest and for the password use return.
The Gopher at Rice
University has lots of info, paricularly on the Internet.
If you fancy a quick look at the weather
then it is available on line.
